What kind of horseback trail rides are available?

Horseback trail rides can vary according to your experience and expectations. Trail rides can vary from 1-2 hour loops around the City of Granite to all day excursions.

  • The North Face Ride will take most of a day on an old logging road that is closed to motorized vehicles.
  • The Granite Creek Trail, which goes down into the John Day Wilderness area, is also an easy day's ride.

In short, you can ride as hard as you wish or take it easy.

Do I have to go on a guided trail ride or can I ride out alone?

Your decision. It is big country and folks do get turned around on occasion; however, we will provide you with maps. Bring your GPS if you have one, but know that most ponies will find the way home when given their head.

What if I don't have a horse?

Arrangements can be made to rent a horse. Mountain Pass Ranch will deliver horses and tack to Granite. They can be contacted at 541-932-4969 or at MountainPassRanch.com

What about the food?

We serve family style meals. They will be hearty, but also health conscious. We serve fresh produce and you will love the berries from the garden We support local producers.

What all is there to do?

Wow! Here are a few suggestions:

  • If you have an ATV, there are miles of trails devoted to ATV's.
  • There are paths to hike, lakes where you can wield your fishing pole, streams to pan for gold and historical mines and dredges to explore.
  • Mountain bike trails abound.
  • At certain times, you can search for mushrooms or pick huckleberries.
  • The horse shoe pit is set up for friendly competition.
  • Elk and deer usually venture into the meadows for evening sightings. So be sure to bring your camera.
  • We have a computer set up where you can download your day's digital photos onto a CD.

What's available in Granite?

  • Gas and diesel service is available at the Outback in Granite.
  • The Outback store also is well-stocked with most everything you may have forgotten as well as unique gifts and specialty items.
  • Full RV hookups are also available.
